Self Portraits and Tribal Makeup

I think I'm starting to get sick of heads: not necessarily of drawing them, but of just how many I seem to post when I look back through the older entries on my blog. That said, I almost never do self portraits, so I figured I would post this one:

In one of my classes we're given weekly assignments: this week's project we had to incorporate the first letter of our name plus an image done in our own style, be it a self portrait, something that inspires us, an obsession, all of the above, etc. I'm still trying to figure my style out, especially in the mediums I prefer to work in (digital, ink, and now open acrylics), but attempting to find your own voice (your way of putting paint to paper, so to speak) is kind of hard - especially with something as proliferate as digital.

I decided to use this project as a chance to practice different modes of digital painting, which I am ashamed to admit I haven't experimented with in years. I'm not completely satisfied with it, but my stuff doesn't look as awful as it did before, and it's probably the most accurate self portrait of me yet. Well, except for the tribal makeup: I've never donned that before. But my hoodie and I are inseparable.
