Unfinished Utopias: Hubris

Hubris: Hatshepsut's Unfinished Obelisk (another illustration from my thesis, Unfinished Utopias).

A female Pharaoh, Hatshepsut was notorious for overcompensation, killing off her relatives, building monuments twice the size of her predecessors, and wearing fake beards to cement her power. She commissioned the Unfinished Obelisk to celebrate her rule - a ceremonial obelisk one third larger than any other ancient obelisk ever erected. The project was abandoned after the Obelisk cracked down the center when they tried to lift it from the quarry.
