Unfinished Utopias: Once Upon a Time

King Ludwig II's Falkenstein Castle. Ludwig purchased Germany's highest elevated castle ruins in 1883, with plans to transform the site into a 'magnificent fairy tale castle.'


He commissioned a series of architects to come up with a design suitable to his tastes, but was unsatisfied with the blueprints, considering them 'too modest.' He died before a design could be decided upon.
